Who is this Jesus?- Vaughan Roberts

Vaughan's book, Turning PointsHere’s a quote from it to help us think more about last Sunday’s Bible teaching …

Chris Eubank, the boxer, said ‘I have no vices. I am a hero. Go and look it up in the dictionary and you will find a picture of me.’ There is a man who does no have a problem with low self-esteem! But that is nothing compared to some of the things that Jesus claimed about himself.

In his first recorded words in Mark’s account of his life in the New Testament, he says: ‘The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news.’ There is no doubt what he was saying. The Jews had been waiting for generations for the fulfilment of the great promises God had made in the Old Testament – foretelling a time when the Messiah would come to re-establish the kingdom of God and put things right again. He would be a great ruler (‘Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God’). Jesus was saying, ‘the moment you have all been waiting for has arrived. I am the one to whom the prophets pointed, the one who will bring about the fulfilment of all God’s loving promises.’

Response to the Anglican Covenant

There have been a few responses to the release of the Anglican Covenant before Christmas.

Bishop Tom Wright has been particularly vocal in his criticism. You can read his response here on the Fulcrum website.

A response to some of these criticisms has been put together and can be found on the Anglican Mainstream website.
