Like any family, we’re on a journey. We hope that you’ll get a feel for us as you hear where we’ve come from and where we might be heading.
Nigel Styles was appointed as Vicar of Bramcote in 2002, but when opposition to his evangelical ministry made it impossible for him to continue in that role, a sizeable group of the congregation left together to plant a new church. The intention was always to see a long-term gospel ministry established in Bramcote with the aim of reaching out into this locality with the good news of Jesus. Emmanuel Church was officially launched in January 2007.
This website gives a good flavour of what our church is like today. We love Emmanuel, and want others to share in what we are learning, and trying to live out, from the Bible. Our church is led by four elders (our ‘Leadership Team’) with a church staff of four people, six different midweek Connect Groups and a growing programme of groups and activities. The best way to know what Emmanuel is like today is to try out one of our main Sunday meetings (see ‘upcoming events’ for more details about when we meet).
In the summer of 2010, our Leadership Team spent a good deal of time thinking and praying about our plans for the next five to ten years. Our 20/20 Vision document (available at church) describes the practical ways in which we intend to reach out, build up and send out (see our ‘vision & values’ page for more info). In particular, in this next phase, we are strengthening our training emphasis as a church, and we will increase our profile in the local community through a number of initiatives. Our long-term aspiration is to plant more churches, with new ministries and congregations to reach out into new parts of Bramcote and the surrounding area.
