We’re recommending this booklet, ‘Listen Up!’ as a really good read for all of us this autumn. It’s a practical guide to listening to sermons.

But, you may ask, why on earth does anyone need a guide on how to listen to sermons? Don’t we simply need to ‘be there’ and stay awake? The fact is, much more is involved in truly listening to Bible teaching than just sitting and staring at the preacher. Jesus said: ‘Consider carefully how you listen.’

Christopher Ash outlines seven ingredients for healthy listening, with really practical suggestions on how to hear better. He then deals with how to respond to bad sermons – ones that are dull, or inadequate, or wrong. And finally, he challenges us with ideas for helping and encouraging our Bible teachers to give sermons that will really help us to grow as Christians.

It’ll only cost you £1.20 (reduced from £1.50). It’ll take you about 30 minutes to read. And it could make a big difference!

Read a sample online now.

Something is terribly wrong- with our world, with our relationships, with us. We all sense this at different times. But is there anything we can do about it?

With all the honesty and humour for which he is famous, John Chapman tells in ‘A Fresh Start’ that God has done something about it. We read about: just what God has done for us through his son, Jesus; how we can know it is true; what the alternatives are; and what we should do about it.

If you have been searching for a book that simply and clearly explains what it means to be a Christian, either for your own or another’s benefit, your search is over.

We’re selling lots of copies of this book at the reduced price of only £3 over this Christmas period: pick up a copy at any of our Christmas events at Emmanuel.

Here is our Book of the Term. A great read to equip us all to understand the heart of what we believe, and to be confident to explain it to others.

There are lots of questions that quickly come to mind when we think about sharing our faith with others. Just what is ‘the gospel’ anyway? Is it my job to explain it to people? What is God’s role and what is mine? Where does church fit in? Why is evangelism so often so hard? And how can we be less scared?

Click here to find out more about the book. Buy it any Sunday from our Book Table for the reduced price of only £4.50.

Here’s a great book to read this Easter to help us think more about the crucifixion of Jesus. Was it a dreaful mistake, a tragic failure, irrelevant, an embarrassment, or what?

The cross of Christ is, in fact, at the centre of God’s plan for men and women. For at the cross, God exposes our deepest need, meets it fully and enables us to live transformed lives. Mark Meynell’s Cross Examined explains all this and more. It’s very readable, full of helpful illustrations, and packed with straightforward teaching about the life-changing power of the death of Jesus.

Read an extract here, and then buy a copy of the whole book from our booktable.

‘Dig Deeper’ will equip you with a whole range of sixteen very practical tools to unearth the Bible’s treasure. As one reviewer says: ‘it will help you to see the Bible as an ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffet rather than a ‘McQuick-and-not-very-satisfying’ nibble. Dig deeper and get to know God better.
