homegroups

homegroups

God’s plan is to gather together communities of people who listen to His Word, trust in His Son to save them, and share His good news with the world.  The church is a big community of God’s people who want to help one another to grow in their love, knowledge and service of God in their everyday lives.

Our homegroups are smaller communities within the big family of Emmanuel, offering the chance for deeper relationships and regular encouragement to live out what we’re learning together.  Homegroups are the primary context in which people experience church family at Emmanuel.

We know the Christian life has its ups and downs and so we want to provide a context for mutual support, a place where we can celebrate together in the good times, support one another when things are tough and love one another through those times when things are almost impossible.

We meet during the week in these small groups (on Tuesday or Thursday evenings) in various homes in the area to read the Bible, to encourage each other to live in the light of what we discover there, and to pray.  We don’t want to confine all this to our weekly meetings, but to establish strong friendships to challenge and encourage each other throughout the week.  We also hope that homegroups will be a platform for reaching our friends, family, neighbours and colleagues with the gospel.

We have five of these homegroups, and most people at Emmanuel are in one of them.  We encourage everyone to join a small group like this to help them feel even more part of our church.  You can see who our homegroup leaders are here.

Sometimes people feel that they don’t know enough about Christianity to be in a homegroup.  We really hope that our groups aren’t intimidating like that!  But it may be that joining a six-week Christianity Explored course would be a better starting place for you.  Click here to find out more about this relaxed introductory course.
