kids & teenagers

We want to be a church for all ages, from the youngest to the oldest.  One thing you’ll see if you’re with us on a Sunday is that there are lots of kids having fun.  Children and young people are really important to us.  Every Sunday there are groups for you, whatever age you are.

e-kids
We have three groups for primary school aged children and under.

  • PEBBLES is our creche for under 3s
  • ROCKS is for 3 year olds, up to school year 2
  • BOULDERS is for school years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Each Sunday we all meet together in church to begin with.  Then after about 15 minutes our e-kids groups start in various other rooms.  It’s made very clear where you should go, and all the groups are led by lovely people with lots of fun ideas to make it interesting to learn about Jesus.  We sometimes have other events happening during the week too, so listen out for details about them too.

Emmanuel Church has a strong child-protection policy.  All our leaders have been properly checked with the appropriate organisations and are well-trained and experienced.

Teenagers
We have two groups for teenagers.

  • RIP-RAP is for people in school years 7, 8 and 9.  As with e-kids, they leave the main service after about 15 minutes and have their own Bible teaching.  The leaders are enthusiastic and engaging, wanting to give the young people the opportunity to ask their questions and get stuck into the Bible for themselves.  There are also midweek socials a couple of times each term which are a great place to invite friends to.
  • YPF is for older young people in school years 10, 11, 12 and 13.  They stay in for the main service and are encouraged to take notes and discuss what they’ve learnt from the sermon.  Their main meeting is on a Monday night where they have a Bible study, discussion and prayer, as well as the chance to hang out together.  We also aim to help the young people to meet up one-to-one with someone a bit older than them to look at the Bible together and pray.  They also have socials and events to bring their friends to hear about Jesus.

All of this recognises that it’s often hard to be a Christian and a young person.  We respect them as young adults with serious questions and a vital role to play in church life.  We want to provide them with every opportunity to hear about Jesus, to grow in their love of Him, to equip them to reach out to others, and to make supportive Christian friendships for life.

All Ages
Once or twice each term we keep all ages together in the main Sunday service.  This is one way of expressing our commitment to younger people at Emmanuel, as well as showing that those younger in the faith have a important role in serving the adults as well.  For more information about what makes our All Age Services distinctive, click on the link here.

If you’d like more information about any of our children’s and young people’s groups, please get in touch with us via our contact page.  Alternatively feel free to simply turn up on a Sunday.  Toni Davies co-ordinates this work, so head to our ‘staff’ page to know who to look out for.  She’d be very happy to answer any of your questions.
