The church is a body.  And just like our human bodies, if one part stops working the whole body suffers.  We believe that God has given us one another with all kinds of different gifts and abilities to serve each other and the world.  If you’re a Christian who’s serious about getting involved with church, there’s all kinds of things you can do.

The main way of getting involved at Emmanuel will be in the small informal things; speaking a kind word, listening, helping each other, packing away chairs, using the gifts and talents we have to build others up.  But there are also jobs that need doing.  Here are a few ideas:

  • Come along with your Connect Group (or any Sunday really!) and help set up for church
  • Stick around after everyone’s started going home and help pack away
  • Learn how to set up and operate the sound desk and the powerpoint
  • Play an instrument in the music group
  • Help or lead in the children and youth work
  • Offer to meet up one-to-one regularly with someone to look at the Bible and pray together
  • Give lifts to people who need them, such as students
  • Anything else you can think of…
Think about something you can do that other people don’t find so easy but would find helpful.  Now you know what you could do for them!  If you’d like to find out more about getting more involved at Emmanuel either on a rota or off-the-cuff, speak to someone at church or get in touch via the contact page.  It may be that there are particular jobs we need to fill or maybe you might have a new idea for something we don’t currently do but you have a heart for.  Think, pray and talk about ways you can serve at church.
